I hope this letter finds you and your family well as you enjoy the holiday season. I would like to personally thank the community and student-athletes for being so welcoming and supportive as I transition into the position of Athletic Director.
As we reflect on the success of our athletic season, I think it's important to recognize the hard work and dedication shown by our student-athletes, coaches, and athletic booster organization. The commitment of all involved truly makes Anchor Bay Athletics an organization that stands out above the rest.
Anchor Bay Athletics believes in creating a culture of student-athletes who demonstrate a willingness to learn from failure, uplift others, and who constantly evolve as stronger athletes and citizens. Our athletic department will continue to teach our student-athletes that success can only be earned through preparation, practice, and persistence.
As we close out 2017 we would like to reflect on the successes of our athletic year:
This fall our FOOTBALL program started the season off 5-0 making the state playoffs. Isaiah Bailey and Andrew Murphy earned 1st All-MAC team, and Troy Bondar and Jacob Paul earned 2nd All-MAC team. Jacob Paul set a new school record with a 97 yard touchdown.
Our SIDELINE CHEER and DANCE TEAM amazed spectators with their halftime performances and have started the winter season strong by performing well in both of their opening competitions. The dance team will be performing at halftime during our Mega Nights, where we will be hosting both our boys and girls basketball teams. Our competitive cheer team will be hosting The Battle of the Bay competition on January 13th.
Our BOYS' TENNIS team was led by junior captain, Blaine Borchardt. This year the team performed well at all of their tournaments, earning two second place finishes and one third. The team is looking to build off their successes and earn a division title next year.
Anchor Bay hosted the annual Cleverly Invite showcasing our talented BOYS' and GIRLS' CROSS-COUNTRY runners to the community. Michael Zedan had a historic year breaking records and earning Individual Academic All State, and earning 1st Team All-State, and All-Macomb County. Paul Billock, Collin McNulty, and Drew Kolodge all earned All Macomb County Academic Team. Katie Greenberg and Amelia Nikesch earned All-County. VOLLEYBALL had a historic year, shattering several categories on the Tar record board. The team brought home the District and Regional Trophies and earned many team accolades including All-Academic Team and Macomb Area Conference (MAC) Team of the Year.
