Tars Soccer Pick up First League Win

The Tars picked up their first League win of the season with a victory over the visiting Norsmen from Grosse Pointe North. GPN struck early in the first half and maintained the lead into halftime. On an assist from Matt Muzia, Cody Smith evened the match midway through the second half with a breakaway run, beating the opposing goalie with a shot to the lower corner. With scrappy goal tending by Hazen Heskett and Evan Prill, it looked like the home team would settle for a draw. Fortunately, with just 45 seconds left and pressure in the Norsemen's own end, a hand ball call in the box gave the Tars a chance for the go-ahead goal. Junior Cody Smith stepped up for the penalty kick and caught the goalie flat-footed, scoring his second of the night and giving the Tars the victory. The Tars are now 1-1-2 Overall and 1-1 in league play. Next up for Tars soccer: Home versus Rochester Stoney Creek tonight, 8-30-18 and then home against Chippewa Valley on Wednesday 9-5-18.  GO TARS!!
